Japan is thought to be an expensive country. It is, but only compared to the nearby sout-east asian countries. However, if you compare it to most European countries, Australia or the US, it can be even cheaper, if you know how to budget.
Flights are one of the main expenses on a trip to Japan. Plan it in advance, and it will be a fantastic way to save some money, as long-haul flights tend to increase their price when the dates get closer. If you know how to do it, you could fly for less than 500$ (round-trip).
Food is part of the Japan experience, and even if on a budget, you should save some money to experience authentic Japanese food. Yet, it is not as expensive as you might expect to eat in Japan.
Accommodation is the key category to save a lot of money. Hostels, capsule hotels, airbnbs… there are endless options, and some of them at a very affordable prices!
Thus, there are ways to make your trip to Japan less expensive and equally (or even more) enjoyable. Find out how to save money in Japan, how to budget for your trip and the complete expenses for a 1-month trip in the following guides!
Japan Itineraries
For most people, Japan will be a long trip. You can surely spend months visiting the country and not run out of things to visit and discover. Nonetheless, not everyone has months or 3-4 weeks to discover Japan. The minimum time I would recommend spend in Japan are 2 weeks. Yet, it is possible to visit some of its most well-known attractions in just under 7 days. If you have more time, a whole month in Japan gives you time to discover the main cities and wander in the sometimes forgotten Japanese countryside.
Depending on the reason why you want to visit Japan, your route and timings can vary. No matter your intentions, the articles in this section will help you get inspired and start planning your trip to Japan.
When is the best season to visit Japan?
The climate in Japan will greatly affect your trip and experience. There are no bad seasons to visit Japan, but each of them will lead to a different type of trip.
Spring is probably most people’s dream time to visit japan. The cherry trees are blossoming (Sakura), and weather gets warmer.
Summer can seem appealing, but typhons are quite common, and the temperatures can be too warm for most people.
Autumn has some of the best postcards of Japan. The foilage turns red, and for a few weeks, the whole country seems on fire.
Winter is probably the least famous season to visit Japan. Nonetheless, winter sports are a things there, and it is, without any doubt, the best time to get clear views over the Mount Fuji!
